Medication

If your student will be needing to have medication kept at school, please contact your campus nurse asap
so that we can schedule a time for you to come in now to drop off doctor orders and medications before
the first day of school. ALL medications must be brought to the campus nurse by a parent or guardian.

Students are not allowed to transport medication to and from school.

OGISD policy requires a written request form from the doctor for all medication (prescription and over-the-counter), that will be scheduled or may need to be given during the school day. Over-the counter medications include but are not limited to: cough drops, cold medication, headache medication and skin creams. All medication is kept in the nurse’s office with the exception of students that have a doctor’s order to carry their inhaler or emergency medication on their person. These students will have the doctor’s order on file with the campus nurse. Playing around or sharing of their medications, example inhalers, will result in the student losing their carrying privileges, and the inhaler will be kept in the nurse’s office.

Immunization Records and Health Conditions

We as a district are currently reviewing all health records and may be reaching out to you for a validated immunization record or needing clarification of a reported health condition on your student. As per Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Students Grades K – 12: Acceptable documentation for an immunization record must be validated. Since many types of personal immunization records are in use, any document will be acceptable provided the physician or public health personnel has validated it. Validation includes a signature, initials, or stamp.

Please reach out to your campus nurse if you have any questions or concerns.
